Picture this Great Sand Dunes National Park Elopement: the soft, velvety sand beneath your feet, the gentle breeze carrying the sweet scent of wildflowers, and the moon casting a soft, ethereal glow over the vast expanse of the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It's a scene straight out of a fairytale, a moment frozen in time that will make you question everything you thought you knew about wedding ceremonies.

When I first arrived at the park to capture a desert elopement under the moonlight, I was struck by the sheer beauty and serenity of the surroundings. The towering sand dunes seemed to stretch on forever, their peaks shimmering in the moonlight like silver waves frozen in time. As the couple exchanged vows against this breathtaking backdrop, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the power and beauty of nature.

But it wasn't just the setting that made this elopement so special. It was the intimacy and connection between the couple, the way they looked into each other's eyes with such love and devotion that it seemed to light up the night sky. It was the way they laughed and danced together under the moonlight, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

As a Colorado Adventure Elopement Photographer, I am constantly searching for moments of beauty and connection, moments that tell a story and evoke emotion. And this desert Colorado elopement under the moonlight was a perfect example of that. It was a reminder that love knows no bounds, that it can thrive in even the most unexpected of places.

So if you're thinking about tying the knot in a traditional wedding ceremony, I urge you to consider something different. Something wild and untamed, something that will take your breath away and make your heart sing. Consider a desert elopement under the moonlight at Great Sand Dunes National Park. Trust me, it will make you rethink your wedding plans in the best possible way.

This is their story.

Great Sand Dunes National park Elopement Colorado "Upon entering the sand field we basked in the late season glow of the cottonwoods before feeling the last of the sun’s warmth across the flat sand. We danced in the wind and climbed up the dunefield to say our vows at dusk. The moment was intimate and uninhibited (and a little windswept!); afterwards Justyna celebrated with us. Shortly thereafter, the almost-full moon rose and the sand collected its pale light. We remained while the stars appeared. We then retired back to the moon-and-lantern-lit hot tub to hold each other and watch the clouds race across the night sky. ” Colorado Elopement Adventure bride

On the day of, we woke up to light streaming in through the uncovered windows and enjoyed coffee and pumpkin bread over the course of a slow morning. We had made the decision for a non-standard elopement and included family in our day. They were invited for lunch, hair and make-up preparations, the first look, and inclusive photos before sending us off into the dunefield for our elopement. Justyna was able to capture those intimate, timeless moments.

The dunes are a magical place and, as you drive up the long approach from the south. They rise out of the landscape against a backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo range. The sun was low and just about settling as we arrived at the nearby luxury airbnb the night before. We watched the sky turn colors and then unwound by the fireplace and tracked the bright moon as it ascended. The day was coming at last!

The Couple's Love Story

Jeff and Becca met through Bumble in 2018. Jeff sent Becca a message asking if she’d like to watch a space movie with a bunch of space nerds as the company he worked for had rented out a theater. That was all she needed to hear, and their first date was October 27th, 2018. While waiting in terribly stiff movie theater seats, they quickly discovered that they had a lot in common - both had moved to the town of Parker at the same time, traveled the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and held the same values. The fourth date was only a week later at an after-Halloween party dressed as Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Since that fourth date, we decided life was better together: from shows at Red Rocks to cooking classes, Rockies games, and backpacking trips. We’ve visited 9 states, explored all across Colorado’s wilderness, and traveled internationally to Mexico. Perhaps the best trips together have been to grocery stores and friend’s places for game nights. It’s the little things…

While discussing the future, we felt eloping and private vows would be most meaningful and personal. The fifth anniversary of our first date was coming up, and it seemed like the perfect time, but four months away we were still living in the moment. Becca had been following Justyna for a couple years at this point, and had fallen in love with her style. Once Becca’s mom got wind of the conversation, she reached out to see if the date was available (spoiler: it was!). From there, we chose Great Sand Dunes National Park, as it was our first overnight trip together.
